Day Trip: Waco

Ever since I moved to Dallas I have been dying to go to Waco, TX! If you’re a fan of HGTV then you can probably guess the reason why. Fixer Upper. I know I’m a total fan girl but can you blame me?! The houses they fix up are just beautiful and Chip Joanna are such a power couple. They recently reopened their Magnolia Market at the Silos and this three day weekend was the perfect excuse to go!

The weather was a little gloomy because it was raining but that didn’t stop us (my boyfriend and I) from going! It was about an hour and a half drive so if you’re in the DFW area it’s definitely worth checking out. We also went a little early because we read it gets busy during the weekend. Luckily we arrived at the perfect time so we were able to find parking and didn’t have to wait in line to get into the market.

I couldn’t wait to go inside so our first stop was the Magnolia Market. Going into the market is like walking into one of the homes in Fixer Upper. The beautiful wall decor, distressed furniture and the classic farm sink. It’s all there. I loved that almost every area had a story behind it. Joanna goes into detail on why she loves the particular item/decor. I think this is why when she decorates people’s houses she always makes them look so homey.

I knew I had to get something for my kitchen so I picked this tea towel. I loved the colors and thought it would look perfectly in my home.

If I had little girl this is what I picture her room would look like. This was in the lower level of the market where they had most of their wall decor along with Joanna’s children line and a home area where you can find wallpaper, paint, etc for your home, I’m definitely keeping that in mind should I ever decide to repaint. To say I didn’t want to take EVERYTHING would be a complete understatement. Something I knew I had to have was a metal quote sign that Jimmy Don makes on the show. They’re so beautiful! I couldn’t be happier with the one we chose. Moving to Dallas was a miracle and I have no doubt that more will come along.

There is so many places to stop and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We had to snap a picture next to the green vintage truck. So. Cute. There is food trucks surrounding the lawn area that offer the best Waco had to offer. We weren’t very hungry yet so we skipped the food trucks and went to grab a pastry at the Silos Baking Co.

We then went to explore downtown. We stoped at Spice which had a ton of cute little trinkets, clothing, and Texas-like decor. Definitely a good place to shop. They have everything you can think of. We also went to Craft Gallery which was down the street from the Magnolia Market. It had a very similar ambiance as Magnolia did. You can see the owners take pride and time to make their little shop look so perfect. By then we had worked up an appetite and heard Vitek’s BBQ was the place to stop. It was really good. I’m glad we ate at a local favorite. This trip was very impromptu but so much fun and definitely worth it. Even if you’ve never watched an episode of Fixer Upper it’s definitely a good time for everyone! They truly made the Silos a place for family and gathering. I’m glad we were able to check that off our bucket list!

Have you ever been to Waco?!
